Autumn 2003

Panel Event on Greenhouse Gas Accounting
In partnership with NRDC, ECOLOGIA will host a panel discussion on greenhouse gas accounting as a side-event to the UN climate convention's Ninth Council of Parties in Milan, Italy. The discussion, to take place on Dec. 10, will involve representatives of ISO TC207 Working Group 5 on Climate Change, the WRI/WBCSD Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and a range of stakeholders with an interest in greehouse gas accounting.

Summer 2003

Spring 2003

Wallace Global Fund Supports ECOLOGIA Climate Change Work
At the end of March 2003, the Wallace Global Fund awarded a grant to support ECOLOGIA's participation in the development of ISO standards on greenhouse gas measurement, reporting and verification.

Aleg Cherp, ECOLOGIA Board Member and Professor of the Central European University, made a presentation at the CATEP conference “International Standardization of GHG Accounting". View the presentation (.pdf).

Autumn 2002

ECOLOGIA joins the international greenhouse gas reduction effort.
ECOLOGIA co-chairs a committee of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) that will facilitate the development of the greenhouse gas standard by coordinating definitions of technical terms, liaising with climate change experts, and generally smoothing the way for collaboration among the many companies, organizations and national governments that are involved in the ISO climate change initiative. On November 6, ECOLOGIA Program Director Heather McGray gave a presentation on ISO 14001 implementation in China for the Woodrow Wilson International Center's China Environment Forum. Her presentation was part of the Center's "Greening Business in China" panel in Washington, DC. See the slides from her presentation here.

Summer 2002

In June 2002, ECOLOGIA representatives participated in the annual plenary of ISO Technical Committee 207, the international committee developing the ISO 14000 standards for environmental management. They took part in a new working group that will develop international standards for the measurement, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas emissions. ECOLOGIA was named a co-ordinator of an ad hoc subgroup on "cross-cutting issues" related to greenhouse gas emissions, including stakeholder involvement in the standards development process.
